Soften Your Clients' Skin with the Hydrating Properties of Paraffin
October 20, 2016

A paraffin treatment can be performed on the hands or feet either by way of a dip in a paraffin bath or by using individual bags filled with paraffin. Also, paraffin can be applied to the face. This procedure opens up pores and allows emollients to penetrate the dermis since it coats the surface of the skin. This prevents transepidermal water loss and, at the same time, detoxifies the skin.
When paraffin is applied to the skin, it increases blood flow to the capillaries. This allows sweat and sebum secretions to increase, flushing dirt from pores to give skin a healthy-looking glow. Increased blood circulation provides beneficial nutrients to the skin, resulting in a rejuvenated appearance. Furthermore, this treatment is useful for smoothing and softening chapped, rough skin. Also, it can be helpful for people with eczema or psoriasis.
For these reasons, paraffin treatments are a must at spas. Let's look at two ways paraffin can be used at spas or beauty salons:
Paraffin treatment for hands and feet

- Put the paraffin into the heater and wait until it melts completely. This will take approximately 45 minutes.
- Clean the skin by applying a pre paraffin tonic lotion. This is for antiseptic purposes.
- Dry the area with a tissue.
- Check the temperature to ensure it is not too hot, and then dip the hand or foot into the melted paraffin for a few seconds. Then take it out and dip it in again, repeating four to six times until a thick layer of paraffin coats the area.
- Cover the treated area with a plastic liner. You can also wrap the treated area in a warm towel.
- Then, put the hand with the liner into a mitten, or into a bootie, if it is a foot. This will increase the effects of the heat.
- Wait 10 to 15 minutes.
- Remove the mittens or booties and the plastic liners.
- Remove the remaining paraffin.
- Apply a moisturizing or special tonic lotion for paraffin treatments.
Paraffin is also used to hydrate and improve the appearance of facial skin. When paraffin is applied to the face, it opens up pores, allowing emollients to penetrate. This rejuvenates the skin and relaxes facial muscles, making your customer feel better. This is how it should be done:
- Put the paraffin into the heater and wait until it melts completely. This will take approximately 45 minutes.
- Clean the face thoroughly and apply a pre paraffin treatment tonic lotion.
- Cover your customer's eyes and lips with wet gauze to protect them.
- Check the temperature of the paraffin to ensure it is not too hot. After that, cover your customer's face with a gauze mask and apply paraffin onto it using a brush. Apply four to five layers.
- Wait 10 to 15 minutes for the paraffin to stiffen.
- Remove the gauze covered with paraffin.
- Apply a moisturizing lotion or special cream for paraffin treatments and massage the face.
