Woman getting her skincare routine before hard body waxesIf clothes say a lot about our style, skin says a lot about our health and how much attention we pay to personal care. The skin is the largest organ of the human body and therefore is the hardest one to maintain. In the pursuit of radiant and glowing skin, we use special creams, get massages, and wax. Fuzz-free bodies have been a beauty symbol for decades, making hair removal a mandatory monthly, weekly, or even daily beauty ritual in the modern world. For those who want to get the most out of a hair removal treatment, they turn to hard body waxes.

Hard body waxes might not be as popular as soft waxes—also known as strip wax—mainly for their higher cost, but they are a great investment for estheticians and their clients. The benefits of hard wax are definitely worth the price: it grabs shorter hairs, is much less painful, doesn't leave a sticky residue on the skin, and exfoliates. While this wax contributes to improving the skin's appearance, it's still necessary to have at-home beauty routines to maintain healthy skin.

Maintaining smooth skin after a waxing treatment demands that the clients follow certain protocols from the moment they step out of the salon. Since skincare is not every client's expertise, we made a practical routine with easy-to-follow steps you can share with your clients for them to take care of their skin at home.
  • Right after waxing. One of the many benefits of hard wax is that it doesn't grab the skin when it's pulled off the body, which is why it hurts less than with strip wax. This also means that the risk of inflammation or redness after a waxing treatment lessens. However, during the following hours after a waxing treatment—whether we're talking about an upper-lip wax or a bikini wax— the skin must be pampered. In other words: no to sun exposure, tight clothes, or makeup, and yes to calming oils and refreshing tonics. Advise your customers to take the day easy to prevent uncomfortable side effects like infections or itchiness.

  • Daily care. Everyday skin care should become a habit for everyone who wants radiant skin. Before getting to specific recommendations, it's important to state that a big part of achieving healthy skin is, in fact, having healthy habits. As Beyoncé's and another stars' dermatologists advise, the key to young and smooth skin is less stress, more sleep, and a balanced diet. Small adjustments in our daily routine have a huge impact on how our body works, it's just that most people don't believe until they try it.

  • Skin covers our entire body and is easily affected by the weather, sun exposure, contamination, and other elements that are present in our everyday lives. As daily cleaning and protecting routines, here are two skincare routines, one for facial care and another for the body:

The face: Tell your customers to cleanse their face at least twice a day (in the morning and at night) with a soap or cleanser they know works great for their skin—you can also recommend one according to their skin type. Also, remind them to apply sunblock and to remove makeup every day, no exceptions. Clients would not believe how much their skin can improve just by following these three rules every day.

The body: Moisturize! Specially during the winter months. Moisturizers are great because they are mostly made of water, hydrating the skin and preventing dryness. Advise clients to apply cream or body lotions right after they shower to maximize effectiveness.

    Scrub and hard body waxes
  • Weekly care. What beauty ritual should be performed at least once or twice a week to keep the skin glowing? Without a doubt, exfoliation; this process removes the dead skin cells of the outermost layer of the skin, cells that make the skin look dull and darker when they build up. Even though some dermatologists think that daily exfoliation is good if done gently, most specialists agree that exfoliation once or twice per week using an abrasive scrub works best. However, you need dead skin cells in your body because they absorb moisture, so don't over-exfoliate!

  • Before the next waxing appointment. If a person has been dedicated to their daily care, the skin should be perfectly prepped for a waxing treatment. As a precaution, advise the client to check if there are any injuries, burns, or rashes on their skin and if there are, decide whether it is possible or not to undergo waxing. Plus, recommend your clients to exfoliate 24 hours prior to the appointment.
Naturally, routine skincare does more than just prep the skin for waxing treatments—it keeps it radiant, glossy, and smooth, everything you want to hear when describing your skin. For some reason, waxing is often described as harmful for the skin, but it doesn't have to be if an esthetician uses the proper products. Hard body waxes, like the ones we offer at Beauty Image, have nourishing and hydrating properties that leave the skin looking gorgeous. If you want to find out more about the specific benefits of hard wax, you can check out this previous blog post where we break it down.

We hope these tips will come in handy when instructing your clients how to treat their skin outside the waxing salon.
